Dark Kinght Film Advert

This is a film advert from the film batman the ‘dark knight’. As you can see the title automatically reflects to the colours used which are mostly black on the edges zooming into white towards the centre. Firstly, you could connote that dark represents a very mysterious and spooky colour where you could never guess an outcome from the story. However contrasting the black is white, which generally connotes to show purity and tranquillity.  But by just looking at the advert, it doesn’t seem to have a ‘peaceful’ narrative.
The colours of the advert, form the lighting as well. You can tell that the picture maybe taken in the dark to create that mysterious look and as well as the make-up on the character, a white spotlight was aimed on the face to make the face the centre of importance. From an audience’s point of view, the mood feels mystifying which suggests the movie may have ‘thriller’ scenes and devious plans.

The composition of the advert is very simple. There is only one close up shot of the ‘dark knight’ in the centre to form an instant engagement for the audience, especially with the white shining on him to emphasise it even more. This type of shot is effective because it enables us to see the facial expressions which look ‘sneaky’. Also, there is only a small amount of writing which creates a simple yet effective advert because as a viewer, you don’t want too much information, it needs to be to the point, like this advert successfully does.

Generally, film adverts are easily put into one or two genres however this is a type of movie that could attract any type of audience. To be more specific, in my opinion, the stereotypical audience for this movie would be men aged between 15 to late 20s. You may also have a secondary audience of females in the same age range and possible a few older people.

Analysing the advert further, there is only one prop used, the ‘card’. It looks like a joker card but with a picture of batman. From this you could gather that there is one plan in the movie which has something to do with batman in a form of revenge or torture. Because there is only one prop, it makes the significance of the narrative effective and easy to connote from.

Overall, the simplicity of the light, composition and colours all work together to create an effective advert where it engages their target audience into potentially watching a film that may be of interest to them.
